The US Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a program ideally suited for homeschool students. It provides many of the benefits and experiences of a JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) that public school students have along with an enhanced hands-on learning approach through training in various fields, such as: STEM/Robotics; Fire Fighting; Force Protection; Martial Arts; Marksmanship; Aviation; Sailing; SCUBA diving; and, others. This program is nationwide, and you can read all about it at https://www.SeaCadets.org. The Florida Keys division, covering all the territory south of Homestead, FL, meets two Saturdays per month for 8 hours per meeting, starting 11 January 2020. As a note, roughly 12% of the incoming class at the Naval Academy for 2018 were Sea Cadets, so this program definitely makes you competitive for higher education. Enrollment cost is $250/year which includes a $100 uniform deposit. Recruiting starts on 08 December 2019 at the VFW Post #3911 and will run until April 2020. All cadets must attend recruit training in Belle Glade, FL, in June 2020.
