Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington is looking for student volunteers. Project SHARE is designed to provide intergenerational connections between older adults at designated senior facilities and students. Through a series of planned activities, young and old come to learn about one another and recognize the unique individuality and diversity of people of all ages.
A typical program meets regularly throughout the year, and each session runs for one hour. Activities are designed to be done one-on-one or in small groups to encourage a high level of interaction. A program includes a one-time Aging Awareness session for the kids, an ice-breaker activity, conversation prompts, and hands-on activities. A celebration often takes place at the end of the year.
The student's hours can be used as SSL (Student Service Learning). The project will take place at several different senior living facilities around Montgomery County, Maryland.
