The Introduction to Beekeeping class is designed to teach the basics of keeping honey bees in the low, southwest desert of Arizona. The course runs approximately three hours and is split into two components: classroom education and hands-on experience.
The classroom portion provides students with general knowledge of honey bee biology, standard beekeeping equipment, and best practices for colony management. The hands-on experience provides students a unique opportunity to suit up as a beekeeper and apply the knowledge and skills learned while assisting the Master Beekeeper instructor with hive inspections in the on-site apiary. Classes are held October-May from 9am-12pm, subject to weather conditions.
