The Gateway Science Center focuses on the high school-aged homeschool student in the following science areas: Biology, Earth/Space Science, and Physics. It will utilize both virtual and in-person assets of teaching. (Virtual notes given one week before the meeting) and in-person summary of notes as well as lab investigations. Students will gain practice with using tools such as a microscope, sensors, and field computers to collect and analyze data. To help them build and strengthen their critical thinking, problem-solving, and stress management skills, they will also be part of a ballet and a martial arts (Japanese style Jiujitsu) class. Students will meet once a week for 42 meetings to cover a full science curriculum. Each in-person meeting will be a little over 3 hrs, so while you wait there will be a study area where other siblings could do their online work, a local library (literally down the road from the center), the Long Island Exploratorium is nearby, and there are small shops and restaurants to visit.
