WriteShop is designed to teach composition skills to junior high and high schoolers in a step-by-step manner. Students learn the four most common kinds of writing—descriptive, informative, narrative, and persuasive (essays)—by means of the following basic building blocks: Brainstorming, Writing Revising, and Editing. This is a two-level program consisting of WriteShop I and WriteShop II. WriteShop I teaches the basics of descriptive, informative, and narrative writing. It is designed for students to begin between 6th and 10th grade, and may take from one semester to two years to complete. WriteShop II offers more challenging assignments, including descriptive narration, point of view, narrative voice, persuasion, and essays. It may also be completed in as little as one semester or as long as two years. Each consumable student workbook contains lesson instructions, brainstorming worksheets, pre-writing activities, and Skill Builders, as well as lesson-specific Student and Teacher Checklists and evaluation forms. The WriteShop Teacher’s Manual contains lesson plans and teaching strategies as well as a tab-divided binder with strategies for helping parents to effectively edit and evaluate their students' writing.
