Finn's & Ginny's parents are lost back in time, and the two young twins have decided to go back to early America to find them. In the first book of The Our America series, The Pilgrim Adventure, they discover that the Pilgrims had far more adventures than they had ever realized. Their second American adventure lands them right in the middle of King Philip's War (to be released the end of 2012). The Our America series is designed to teach history in such a fun way that the reader may not even realize that the books are educational. The author, Susan Kilbride, is a home educator who realized that the best way to teach history wasn’t by using standard text books but by telling the stories of the people who lived it. She plans on continuing the Our America series in upcoming books. Free activity sets are available for the books.

Reading a story about kids' adventures in Pilgrim times beats a dry textbook recounting of history any day, and the sometimes-harrowing experiences of Ginny and Finn fill that bill superbly. Students are transported back into the uncertain days of early settlement in the New World, including fear of death by starvation, disease or native inhabitants. Balancing this reality shines the warm glow of wonderful friendships forged during their year-long visit to the past. I highly recommend this entertaining and informative story to inspire curiosity and appreciation of the challenges people have faced in the past while aspiring to a better life.
Cons: The only con in this series was that we couldn't immediately pick up the next book in the series and continue the story!

I loved this book! It was well written and held the attention of all three of my children, all varying in ages from 8-13 years. The writer easily drew us into the story right away, and I loved how it brought to life that time in history. Mrs. Kilbride has seamlessly woven in many facts, true to life characters, and even historical terms in such a way that it never felt as if we were reading a history textbook! It is always my desire to read living books to my children to help them grasp history in a fun and enjoyable way. "Our America, The Pilgrim Adventure" did just that! We anxiously anticipate the release of the rest of the "Our America" series!
