Cons: none yet
Grades Used: piano with 3rd grader
We started about 6 weeks ago and my son loves this program. He is easily frustrated and it's wonderful that when he's had enough for the day we can just stop. He has already learned more than he would have with a private instructor and there is a real sense of accomplishment for him.
Cons: no physical teacher
Grades Used: using guitar with 6th grader
My son just started using this 2 months ago. He had never picked up a guitar before but given its versitility, we thought it would be worth giving it a try. A weekly private lesson would be in the region of $30, so although the initial cost seemed pricey, it has already paid for itself and he's making good progress. As with any instrument, practice is the key, and its neither exciting, nor interesting! However, I feel that so far there have been enough 'song' enticements to keep him interested. We try to use the program 4 times each week for 20-30 minutes. My fear is that if left, my son would not necessarily follow the practice requirements, so although, in theory, he 'could' be left alone with this, I stay with him. The teacher is pleasant to listen to. We enjoy the option to play along with the teacher on cd and the option to do so at either slow, medium or fast pace is incredibly helpful and motivating. Overall, a great program to this point. It is supposed to be a 2 year program, it may take us longer than that so we'll get our monies worth in the end!
