My son read the Story of Science series as fun, supplemental reading. I would not suggest it as a core science text. For history lovers who don't think they like science, these books would make it come alive in a historical way.
Like her Story of US series, Hakim uses lots of stunning visuals and the books read like novels. They are thick and heavy. To save on costs, the public library should have them.
Hakim writes from a secular viewpoint, so if you want creation-based texts, you would have to edit some content, or use it as a springboard for explaining your family's views and beliefs. Secular users will be glad to find a text to fit their needs.
