Cons: Time consuming

There are so many quizzes and tests ! An average day takes us one on one from 8:30 to 4:30 sometimes later ! NO customer service !!! I’ve called 3 days in a row and receive a “closed” message. I emailed over a week ago ! NO Response !!! My anxiety level is through the roof as if you miss anything you’re in the weeds !!! The instructors on video speak so fast that both my child and I are spun by the end of the course so that leaves us to go over material one on one along with videos. That’s double effort and double time !!!! We have no life just keeping up. Fifth grades expectation is harder than I remember high school. I suppose if they would have customer service I wouldn’t be so upset 😭

Their customer service is trash. I’m on hold for over an hour and still don’t get people to talk too about urgent problems. Emails aren’t responded to, phone calls aren’t answered. They close before 3 everyday this year, and open after 7 often times. If I could get a refund I’d pull my child out right now.
Cons: Too much Catholic bashing & incorrect info regarding Catholicism in world history class
Grades Used: 7
My student enjoyed the program and content, ease of quizzes and tests online with mostly immediate feedback. 7th gr subjects were challenging but interesting w/lots of memorization but quality subject matter. World History teacher is very entertaining; however, is very incorrect regarding Catholicism. For a Christian program, this approach of constant unacceptable Catholic bashing is Not being Christian at all. It's understandable how a program like this would easily sway the Catholic who is unfamiliar with his own faith. I had to listen to virtually every class in order to discuss incorrect teachings regarding Catholic history and beliefs. Mr. Smith, the teacher, evidently has been taught by Protestants about Catholicism. He needs to get back to his roots and study Catholicism from legitimate Catholic resources and even converts from protestantism.
Cons: Horrible customer service, difficult workload, inflexible schedule, no real teachers to interact with

Where do I begin? We are missionaries in Africa and have used Abeka Book for most of our homeschool. So, we thought using Abeka Academy would be the natural next step for my daughter for 9th grade.
Since we were getting ready to head back to the field we opted to do the DVD’s instead of streaming as we weren’t sure what the internet situation would be. We ordered in August and were getting ready to return to the field in November. Well, one of the DVD’s didn’t arrive. Algebra DVD set 3 wasn’t ready but we were promised it would arrive before we left in November.
In December, we were now on the field. No DVD yet. We called and they promised to mail it. One to us in Uganda and one to my parents in Missouri. Neither one ever arrived. I forgot about it until she got ready to use that DVD and realized that it never arrived. Now what are we supposed to do? Because of Covid our country isn’t receiving any mail from the US.
Customer service has been horrendous. Our credit card expired but we had a new one of course. Just a new date for the card. We kept getting emails that our payment was declined even though I called them monthly to update the card information. This went on for four months before they finally figured it out.
We used the customer service chat feature alit since our calls from overseas would often break up or disconnect. The customer service people were friendly but not knowledgeable at ALL. They would transfer me 3-4 times to get my question answered.
The program is NOT flexible at all. Once you start, your dates are set in stone. We took off about a month in moving overseas only to find out that her due dates for her Progress Reports all remained the same and so she had spent the whole year playing catch up.
The whole “late work fee” and “extensions” fee really got old. Plus it was confusing. We paid for an extension since she was going to be late for Progress Report 1 , just to find out that it is called a “late work fee” unless it’s the end of the school when it’s called an extension and a different price . We had different people telling us contradictory things all the time.
I would always give them a negative review on the customer service follow up emails they always sent but that never seemed to make any difference.
I haven’t tried returning the DVD’s yet but from what I’ve read on here it may prove difficult from overseas although we were told it would be no problem.
The work load is overwhelming and once you fall behind it’s almost impossible to catch up. Teachers are boring and she usually just reads from the books herself. No real teacher interaction.
I’m switching her next year to Sterling Academy online school that her sister already uses.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND ESPECIALLY IF TOU LIVE OVERSEAS.
Cons: You do need to teach your child to print since they teach cursive but that's a small con

I'm really shocked at the negative reviews. We've used Abeka K thru 3 and we are starting 4th grade this year. My hubby & I love this program. My daughter learned to read & write cursive in kindergarten when they don't even teach it in public schools in most places anymore. I'm not sure why some reviews are saying that's a negative? My daughter picked it up quickly & I didn't even do preschool for her at all. This might come as a "bad mom" moment for some....but I didn't even teach her to read before starting K5 with Abeka...and guess what my daughter now excels at because of Abeka? Reading. Her friends that go to public school learned "sight" words & couldn't read well at all....Abeka actually TAUGHT her how to sound things out...not sight words. My mom (who was totally against homeschooling) was extremely impressed by how well she was reading by the 1st grade. My mom's "epiphany" moment was when my daughter was reading her a story & she didn't mix up words like "though", "through", "tough", etc & read them without skipping a beat. This was first grade & again...I did not teach my daughter to read before she started Abeka K5. My daughter can take anywhere from 3 hours or 5 hours to be done...it depends on her level of attention for that day. I don't understand the "busy work" comments from people either...there is seatwork, but my daughter does it all during class. I'd like to point out....my daughter's mind wanders at times & she STILL gets the stuff done during class & the only thing we might do at night for "homework" is study for a spelling test, history test, science test, etc which literally takes us about 15-20 minutes. Maybe it will be longer as she goes up in grade levels. I'm also a bit perplexed at people complaining about 2 or 3 quizzes in one day....I graduated in '89 and throughout my school years, I definitely had 2 or 3 quizzes/tests in one day. What the heck are public schools doing these days? And maybe this is why our education in the U.S. isn't up to par with the rest of the world. We are a military family (I served 24 years & hubs served 16 years) and I do like the structure of Abeka. If you are wanting to do unschooling or less structure, Abeka may not be for you. But with that said....you can make Abeka as structured or unstructured as you want. After every 2 classes my daughter takes a 5 to 10 minute break...sometimes she does 3 classes & takes a break. I totally leave it up to her. Sometimes we have to leave for a medical appt & we can stop at any point in time & then pick it right back up when we get home if we want. Sometimes she pauses her video teacher & asks if I can explain something a little bit more to her, which quite honestly, I like that she can do that. So we are going on our 5th year of using Abeka & I have no issues with customer service, ordering, the textbooks, returning videos (which you print off yourself to send them back), etc. Another thing I like...no common core math!

This program is about as effective as Trump Academy. Our enrollment was constantly being messed up, then after hours on phone I would be told it was fixed, only to learn later is was not. While we were considered “unenrolled” they sure kept auto payment running smoothly. The streaming videos consist of a teacher that speaks like she is talking to toddlers, my kid is in 6th grade, and constantly watching some poor kid named Isaiah get corrected for everything. Waste of time and money
Grades Used: 1-7
There are other programs that are much better than Abeka, especially for Math. Mr Howe is aweful, he is rude to the students and does not explain the information well. Streaming goes down frequently so my children cannot do school that day. Biblical interpretations are completely inaccurate.

I have two daughters who began homeschooling their 9th and 11th grade years, both of whom plan on attending a four year college after graduating high school. I chose Abeka because the courses offered are college prep classes that will translate into no hiccups once they apply for college. We used the video/accredited program for both grades. My daughters and I had no problem switching gears from public school to Abeka. Their grades stayed consistent, they were done much earlier in the day than public school and had time for music classes and sports participation. I believe the success of the student depends on the attitude and work-ethic of the student, and the commitment of the parent to guide the student through the course work. Parental encouragement for participation in outside activities is just as important as the coursework. Abeka is reading and writing intensive which I believe better prepares the student for college. There are more quizzes than public school, but I believe this is a positive as it reinforces what the student is learning. As far as the cost.....If you are willing to put in the work, there is a network of homeschooling families who use this program and sell their used textbooks. If you are enrolled in the accredited program, the test books and answer keys are included in your purchased tuition-only enrollment. We purchased used textbooks from places like ebay and homeschool pages on facebook and cut our costs by $800.00 per year. When we finished this year's enrollment, we sold our textbooks and used the money to purchase next year's. I would highly recommend Abeka to anyone wishing to homeschool their child. A challenging, very well-rounded education is attainable .
Cons: outdated,dual enrollment

So,I started 9th grade at a public school and i had some behavior issues. I got pulled out with 2 months left in school. My parents put me in Abeka for schooling. Unfortunately, I had to start my 9th grade year over. After much contacting they accepted my transcript and moved me to the second semester. In Georgia schools typically spend the last two months on review for standard testing so i had basically finished 9th grade. Now I don't watch the videos because I know the information. I wish that they would make the classes more updated and relatable. I will finish my schooling for 9th grade in September, then i will start dual enrollment at a local university. I wish Abeka had a way to share courses. I will also have to take my collage classes and then Abeka.
Cons: Oppressive amount of work, terrible customer service
Grades Used: 8th grade
I was enrolled in Abeka's Accredited program for 8th grade, and while there was no denying the quality of the materials and the professionalism of the teachers (although the videos are very old-fashioned), the sheer volume of work was oppressive.
If you chose the accredited option, you have to watch all of the dvds in all subjects. In grade 8, there was five subjects, however, as each year progresses the amount of classes increases. In grade 12, for example, there is a total of 10 subjects. Each dvd is approx. 50 minutes long. There is no flexibility within the accredited option as you cannot chose which subjects you want to do- unless you opt for the independent study option (where you will not receive a diploma upon completion).
There is no reading or writing done during the day, just listening, which quickly becomes very tiring and draining. Reading and writing is all done at night as homework. There is homework given in all subjects, every night. I am not against homework, but this means you almost have another full school day at night! Even when there is an upcoming test, there is no time for revision, as there is no let up in the homework. Because you are constantly being bombarded with new information, you have practically no time to revise over the previous content.
Because this homeschool programme takes up so much time, both during the day and at night, it allows no time for non-academic activities. I used to really enjoy art and pilates, as well as learning French, but during this program I have had to cancel them altogether.
I personally felt as though too much was covered in one year- particularly in history, which was more like two years of work.
In my opinion, if you're looking for a course that encourages critical thinking and follows a mastery system, this won't be the homeschool program of choice. Abeka is very fast-paced and involves very little creative/independent work as it revolves very heavily around fact memorisation and repetition.
I will no longer be continuing with Abeka, instead, I am switching to a mastery-system homeschool program which offers flexibility and individualisation.
Cons: Super long, teacher n dvds, boring, busy work
Grades Used: 2nd
Abeka bored my kids to death. The busy work was way too much. It took so long and after a while it was a battle to homeschool. We quit mid year and took up another program and I am so thankful. I first felt horrible in wasting all that money but we have been on the new for many months and I don't have to ask them to start lessons. It's a easy 2 hours plus a hour of additional math facts and reading. Time4learning, brainpop and veritas bible. Lifesaver sites!!!
Cons: 2-3 quizzes every day -homework for homeschooling -Boring , outdated

Hi I’m Ellie currently in 7th grade and my brother in 8th And we have some real problems with Abeka. Pros-On your own time
Cons- We get like 2 -3 quizzes a DAY and the videos are not fun at all. I felt I’ve lost human interaction when my whole life I’ve had to do schooling and homework- why have homework when your already doing schoolwork at home 🤦♀️ Point is -DO NOT PUT YOUR KIDS IN ABEKA THEY WILL HATE IT.
While their curriculum is somewhat good (barely), they give TOO MUCH WORK and THEY TEACH THE MOST USELESS BS. The teachers are terrible at explaining things, and I learn barely anything from the videos. No normal school gives a quiz EVERYDAY. This school is an example of what a good school environment doesn't look like. The worst thing of all... THE BIBLE CLASS!!! I am in no way Christian and I don't even care to read the Bible. This program is hell and Id rather go to a public school and get bullied. DO NOT FORCE YOUR KIDS TO DO THE ABECKA PROGRAM!!!! IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cons: A lot of work

We are using the accredited abeka academy. This is my first year homeschooling my son in third grade. I think how smoothly it will go will depend on how motivated and independent your child is. For my son, it is very time-consuming. We are not able to complete a single lesson in one day. We are aiming to complete the curriculum in one year instead of the standard nine months. That being said, I think it is a superb curriculum and I would highly recommend it. I remember using abeka for a few years as a child and I really loved it. I like how they incorporate the Bible into the curriculum. I feel like my son has really grown in his Biblical knowledge and understanding in the past few months. It is a very godly, Christ-honoring curriculum, of which the value cannot be underestimated.

We have used Abeka for all 8 of our children. Our last two are in 12th grade. Let me clear something up here. People say that their students cannot ask questions. Yes they can. There are academic people at Abeka that students can call and ask questions. The customer service at Abeka has been exellent. They have always answered our questions and have been very flexible with our students. Students are allowed to take a course one year lower or one year higher. Their curruculim can be challenging but it kept my students on their toes and the appendix quizzes insured that they did their homework etc..My oldest went to college and was the highest in her class. She was well prepared....in math and writing. My students have many friends as they participate in many activities. This concept that homeschoolers are socially inept is bogus and on their parents. The reviews that say there are too many quizzes and papers show laziness on the reviewer! There are adequate amounts that make sure the students are studying and actually learning the work!!! I highly recommend this curriculim.
Cons: Busy work, too many quizzes and book reports, history and science taught from a biased view, bible shouldn’t count towards your GPA

Okay, I have a lot to say about Abeka. First off, I want to say that being homeschooled was never my choice. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life.. I used to beg my parents to let me go to “outside school”. I was socially isolated most of my life because of homeschooling...specifically because of the way my parents did it. I was forced to be homeschooled for many years and I do think that plays a part in why I have a bit of a negative view on Abeka. I started Abeka in Kindergarten when I was 4 years old, a year ahead of most kids. My parents put me a year ahead since I was gifted at reading but I always hated being ahead. I did well in Kindergarten but it was all downhill from there. I moved long distance when I was 5 and my education deteriorated since my mom wasn’t able to be a good teacher due to her own issues. I don’t remember a whole lot from 1st-3rd grade, but Abeka math when I was in 4th grade made no sense to me. They teach division in a weird way. Also I was never taught print writing and I had to teach it to myself when I was in middle school since all Abeka teaches is cursive. I was 4 years old learning CURSIVE and it was not easy. Every child needs to learn print first. I can’t believe they expect children in kindergarten to write in cursive, and the grading system for the writing tests is very strict as well. Anyway, for 5th and 6th grade I used BJU for my curriculum and overall that was a good experience. BJU taught me a better style of cursive and my writing was very good for a while because of BJU. For 7th grade I used SOS (Switched On Schoolhouse) and that was a huge mistake. I was still a year ahead at this point and I learned nothing my entire 7th grade year. I was put back into Abeka for 8th grade and it was quite a shock. I was still a grade ahead and I obviously couldn’t keep up to Abeka’s standards at that point. Also I had no social life since my parents never involved me in any homeschool groups or anything. I began to feel very isolated and there were a lot of things that went on that I consider neglect now. Because of all these issues, I convinced my parents to let me go back to the grade level I was supposed to be at. I finished 8th grade on track. It was very difficult though because I was expected to be a babysitter for my mom and at the same time basically teach myself. I had little to no help from my parents. And there were no real teachers that I could ask questions to. All I did was watch Abeka’s videos and take the quizzes and tests like a robot. I started 9th grade on track but then we moved long distance again and moving messed up my school horribly. I fell an entire year behind. We moved a second time after that and it just got worse. I struggled to finish 9th grade and then tried to get into a real school, but because of how behind I was, the charter school I wanted to go to couldn’t take me. I’m afraid of going to a regular public school because I developed extreme anxiety due to being isolated. I can’t work well in groups and I have a hard time with basic social skills. So for 10th grade I had to do Abeka again. Right now I am nearly two years behind in high school and it has devastated me. I’m 17 and not even done with the first semester of 10th grade. I should be a senior this year. I won’t graduate until I’m 19, possibly 20. Abeka’s curriculum allows no way for me to test out and move up a grade level. I have to be stuck where I’m at until I finish every test and quiz and every video. High school videos are about an hour each plus homework. I have 6 classes. There is no way for me to catch up. While I may be prepared for college in some ways (I’m very good at reading quickly and good at studying things independently) I am afraid so much that I will not fit in there or be able to handle actually being in a class. Socially, Abeka and homeschooling in general was a detriment to me. Also Abeka’s religious views are skewed to a very fundamentalist baptist view. They don’t allow any other view. I believe that’s wrong. Im a Christian but Abeka has made me question my faith several times. And girls wearing skirts like they do on video is something that I don’t agree with. I can say with certainty that I will never go to Pensacola Christian College for my college.
While I’m scared to go to college and to actually be out there in the world, I also want nothing more than to be done with Abeka and homeschooling for good. I am thankful that I didn’t go through bullying and other issues that public school students face, but at the same time being isolated and forced to homeschool while having no friends isn’t much better. I will be sending my own children to a charter school or private school. I believe that they can provide a better education than Abeka can.

I have used Abeka Academy for my entire school life. Abeka is a great program for those wanting to prepare their children for the real world. It includes challenges and the teachers push you to do the best work you can do. Each assignment has a detailed list of requirements. All you have to do is meet them. Also, each teacher has had over 20 years of experience teaching his subject. They know what they are doing people!!!!! Those complaining about the "busywork" , think about what you are teaching your children by telling them that this program is "too hard" and the they will find them something easier. This teaches one to give up; not rise to the challenge. Abeka Academy prepares you for college through many essays, compositions, papers, etc. It has taught me sooo much. The teachers are always encouraging and inspiring. Pushing us to our limits in academics and in our personal spiritual lives. They do not promote evolution, but also explain why incase their students should need to defend their beliefs. It teaches time management in order to get everything done in a timely manner. I do not believe that succeeding in Abeka is impossible. It just takes work and dedication. Think of how much prouder you would be at the end of a challenging four years of highschool than a breeze of highschool. I am currently in 11th grade and have made honor roll in Abeka in 9th and 10th. For a clean, challenging, christian education, abeka is the way to go.

We have used this program for the past 3 years. We did the accredited video program. Yesterday, I called to cancel my kids' enrollment. Where do I begin? First, when I called to pull my kids out of the accredited program, I was told I have to send all the workbooks, teacher manuals, and video manuals back. What? When we paid for the enrollment last year, we were told that aside from the DVDs, everything was ours to keep, since we had bought it. We were told since the workbooks and such can't be reused, it all belongs to us. Now we have to send all the stuff back? I'll be checking that out on Monday. Second, the program is entirely too fast paced. They introduce a math concept, for example, then on to something else the next day. Third, there is way to much busywork; Tons of reports, as well as quizzing and testing almost everyday. This program does not work well for kids who need hands on learning or extra help. Fourth, the eight point grading scale is a rip-off. It makes it very hard for kids to earn and maintain good grades. An 85 is not a C, folks. Fifth, I found out that out of all the 10 best curriculums for homeschool, A Beka is listed as in the top 3 most expensive. We have since found a different homeschool program that we will use this coming school year. It's much more flexible. I would never recommend A Beka Academy to anyone, and in fact have cautioned other families I know who want to homeschool not to use this program. We will not use them again.
Cons: Customer service is almost as bad as their curriculum.
Grades Used: 8th (and almost 9th)
I am a single father of a 14 year old and serve in the military. I was deployed overseas (noncombat) and able to take my son. I did not want put him into schools and pull him as he was just getting settled again and again. He attended school as like every other child until 8th grade, when I had to deploy overseas for the military and took him with me.
I checked Army resources and Abeka was touted as being a successful program of instruction that would fit our needs. After speaking with their customer service/enrollment personnel, I was assured that they work with military families in these circumstances “all the time” and that I “would have no issues with the curriculum.” This proved untrue.
We were sent the DVDs and books and my son jumped into them eagerly. He finished overseas and very quickly and then the trouble began. I contacted Abeka asking for the labels to return the DVDs and self-addressed envelopes to return the coursework. After stating over and over again they would send them… they never arrived. I held the work and continued to contact them many, many, many times. Instead of sending us the resources to return their coursework for grading they would send emails stating that my son had not returned the work and was out on the “inactive” status. When I would again call, I was informed “it was a mistake” and they would “reactivate” his account standing. This of course was then immediately followed by yet another email stating he was immediately inactive again. It was frustrating to say the least, as my son had completed everything easily and did more studies involving international entities just to fill out his education.
We left our overseas deployment and returned to the States where I continued to attempt to return the completed coursework. In a short time, we were sent overseas again. I expressed the urgency in returning the work so I could order the next year (9th grade). Abeka, of course, stated they would be happy to take my money and send more material. I declined stating that I wanted to ensure my son received credit for the work he completed and then I would order the next year (9th). Once again, Abeka promised to send the material before we left the States. This simple act seemed to be an impossibility for the company as a whole.
I asked multiple times if I could send in the material without their envelopes and was informed they would arrive, just be patient. We deployed yet again without sending in the work. After many months, we returned to find the envelopes had arrived after we had left the country. My neighbors on post held the package for our return. I called and was informed again that my son was “inactive”. They reactivated him and within 30 minutes received an email stating he was inactive again. I was furious! I called and spoke to a Mr. Webb who informed me that he would” take care of everything” and apologized profusely. After I settled, I bought into the whole” I am a supervisor and I promise to correct all issues for you.” I asked what was needed to be sent in with the books and DVDs and was informed that sending in these materials was enough.
I sent in the work and was stupid enough to order the 9th grade curriculum for my son to complete very quickly. Abeka had no issue taking my money immediately. They did however have big issues with grading my son’s work. I was informed that they would not send the 9th grade curriculum because they had not graded his 8th grade yet. Next, I was informed that my son could not complete the course at his pace quickly and would if he completed his work early they would actually hold it up to 6 months before even looking at it. Next, they stated that I did not send a progress report, even though I was informed it was not needed by a supervisor, and last they stated the work was not complete even though every single page had been checked, verified and graded by me. Being a senior non-commissioned officer and holding every instructor certification in the military along with have a graduate degree and post graduate studies, I assumed that I actually was able to impact my son’s education in a positive way by being proactive and creating a love of learning that I hoped would last a lifetime.
I spoke to Abeka yesterday. I informed them that I wanted my refund for the 9th grade curriculum that they had not sent. I also informed them that I was very disappointed in their program and would inform anyone who asked me of my experiences with them.
In my honest opinion, I would look elsewhere for an educational curriculum that actually has the best interests of your child at heart. Abeka does not assist military families in any way, no matter what they promise. They do not care for the education of your child. Their curriculum is tedious and dry at best. Consider this an honest assessment and look elsewhere for an education opportunity that will ignite your child’s interest and love of learning. My son is frustrated as we believed that he would be ahead of his peers and now he is behind. I am desperately looking for an opportunity to assist him in catching up on his 9th grade credits and getting ahead. I have to deploy to a combat zone in 2 months and my concern is getting my son caught up before I leave. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

I have used a beka for two students for 3 years now, grades 1-6th. We’ve done a year of just books and then switched to independent learning via a beka academy. I love it. Yes, they sometimes complain about the length of the videos but they sing along with them and play games as well. They learn songs that help them memorize all kinds of valuable info. There is a lot of seat work but you have the option to assign all of it, some of it or none of it. My oldest began to really love math after hating it for years. The man who teaches only math, is funny. She looks forward to math with him. I see many people complaining about verbiage used and lack of critical thinking being taught but I just don’t agree. I don’t expect a curriculum to be my kids’ only learning experience. My husband is a member of the Mi'kmaq nation and he is also a public high school teacher, he has no problem with the verbiage used. I read another review that said that the a beka history books are wrong and what I’ve actually experienced is that modern history books have re-written history to suit today’s political climate. History and science are factual subjects that sometimes today are written from one point of view or another. What I like about a beka is that their text books are straight forward and don’t involve politics.
Cons: Digital testing doesn't work out very well.
Grades Used: 9
I am halfway through my first high school semester and I think that this program is great for me. I love having the freedom to watch the videos at my own pace, work ahead, and rewatch lessons whenever I need to. The only thing I would not suggest is digital testing. Especially if you cannot spell very well since it will only count a correct answer with one letter off as half credit, and they count it wrong with more than one. It is very organized, and if I understand the review in the lesson, I can skip to the actual lesson. The textbooks are very easy to read and colorful, so you can take excellent notes and know what is important. The website is great, too, because you can see what you have to do everyday, see what quizzes and tests you have, there is a daily checklist, you can see recent grades, and you can see every assignment for the entire year. When I get stuck on a math problem I don't understand, I can simply call Abeka and they will help me understand the problem, even showing me it on a Skype-like white board, and they do it for any subject in any grade. I have 5 classes a day, at 30-45 minutes per class, and you have less than 15 minutes of work after each class that you can easily complete during the next classes review. I have less than 4 hours of work per day, which fits my busy schedule perfectly. Most people says it takes forever or it's really hard, but for me it's exactly opposite. I would suggest Abeka Academy for anyone.
Cons: Nothing

My daughter has used Abeka curriculum her entire academic life. Her Christian school used it and when she started homeschooling in the forth grade we continued using it. We love it because it is thorough. She uses the DVDs and she can back them up if she needs to if she missed something. She has learned to take notes, how to master material and organize her own time. I feel she will be well prepared for college.
Cons: Too much wasted time, it’s all or nothing
Grades Used: Pre-K-2nd
I love this curriculum but wish that we could buy subjects separately for elementary. Also, the arithmetic video is too long at 40 mins. Ideally the lesson could be taught, speed drills done, some problems worked out....all in a concise 20 mins. My first grader really dislikes the math section bc it’s so long.
Cons: everything is terrible
Grades Used: 7th
If you are wanting to homeschool do not do this program!!! The work is insane. You have to complete 170 videos per subject and i have like 5 subjects!! My brother is in college and my work is harder than his! But, thank god i am transferring to our local public school this year!!!! Watching the teachers with their super happy excited face makes me sick! Dude its school be real and why do we have to memo a two page poem about stupid crap !!! I am being honest
Cons: Grading is extremely stringent. Spell a word wrong and only get half credit for an answer. Also a couple of times she received zero credit on an essay that she felt good about.

After a friend's recommendation my 9th grade daughter just finished her first semester using Abeka Academy's accredited program and she watches her classes on DVD's. She spent her first 9 years at a local Christian School. We have been extremely pleased with the program. It is really tailor made for someone like her - highly responsible and tired of the distractions of a very active class. The best part is the teachers are fantastic (her favorites are Physical Science and Bible) and the program is highly organized and efficient. We feel she is getting an excellent education for a fraction of the cost we were paying before. If we have questions Abeka is quick to get back to us. It has been since the fourth grade that I have seen my daughter this happy at "school". She loves organizing her own day. Highly recommend.
