So You're Thinking About Homeschooling is the perfect book if you're considering homeschooling or simply want to know more about the different methods available.
Lisa Whelchel (formerly Blair of The Facts of Life sitcom) sends you on a field trip where you'll meet her homeschooling family and 14 fictitious families she created using extensive research. Once leaving Lisa's house, the "host" of each chapter comes from a different family who speaks to you as if you're right there.
They are from various backgrounds and employ different schooling methods, such as Classical, Eclectic, Traditional, Unschooling, the Principle Approach, Accelerated Education, Literature-Based Learning, Robinson Self-Teaching Method, Charlotte Mason Method, and Unit Studies. As you talk to Lisa's "friends," you'll quickly see that most kids are not super-achievers and homeschooling often takes hard work and sacrifice.
Although written with a Christian influence, there is no preaching or put-downs of the public school system. Plus, all living situations are common to everyday life so anyone can identify with them.
So You're Thinking About Homeschooling is an excellent book that will bring you closer to a decision and/or method for your family. RECOMMENDED
