The homeschool hiking/biking annual event began in May 2005 as a way to gain recognition for homeschooling as well as getting some exercise, group involvement, and introducing homeschoolers and their families to hiking and biking in the great outdoors!! It is an annual event now and will be held each year the last full week in May all across the United States. We are asking for individuals and groups involved in homeschooling to set up events in their areas. Learn with Laughter, a not for profit organization is offering classes for Beginning Acting & Scene Study using method techniques, Intermediate Acting & Scene Study using method techniques and Professional Filmmaking & Editing for Union County youth, ages 13-18.
Through this educational Enrichment Arts Program, students will learn the creative, technical and organizational skills of—the craft of acting with method techniques, and filmmaking using Final Cut Pro and Protools.
The Enrichment Arts Program will take place at Central Academy of Technology and Arts, 600 Brewer Drive, Monroe on Tuesdays. The 14-week program is set to start on Tuesday, September 28, 2009, 4PM-6PM. The cost per weekly session is $20. The classes are open to all Union County youth. The Enrichment Arts Program is a specialized professional program. It has been coordinated with Larry Robinson, Drama Teacher, Central Academy of Technology and Arts and Corlin Productions, a film and video production house that produced educational DVDs on Method Acting based on Stanislavsky and Strasberg written by Lorrie Hull, Ph.D. (master teacher for Strasberg.) The Enrichment Arts Program instructors, Linda Watt and Cory Riback bring years of professional experience to the program. Students may use the education imparted through the program to appreciate the arts, enter advanced levels of education in the arts, and go on to successful careers in acting and film production.
Corlin Productions is supplying production/postproduction equipment for “hands on” learning including broadcast equipment, Final Cut Pro and Protools. Learn with Laughter is awarding scholarships for underprivileged students who cannot afford the educational extra curricular activity. Proof of need is required. he Snow Camp Historical Drama Society is a year-round, multi-purpose, non-profit organization. The Society organizes various productions, festivals and activities that provide the public with professional theater and cultural education throughout the year.
The historical outdoor drama THE SWORD OF PEACE is a mainstay of the organization and is now entering its 36th year. PATHWAY TO FREEDOM opened in 1994 and is the only outdoor drama in the United States that deals with African-American history and the Underground Railroad. A Childrens Theater production and a Broadway Musical are also produced each summer. Cultural education is provided with the annual Youth Drama Camp, the Molasses and Colonial Living Festival, the Childrens' Theater Tour, and the Historical Site itself.
