Homeschool hiking/biking annual event
May 23, 2010 - May 29, 2010
The homeschool hiking/biking annual event began in May 2005 as a way to gain recognition for homeschooling as well as getting some exercise, group involvement, and introducing homeschoolers and their families to hiking and biking in the great outdoors!! It is an annual event now and will be held each year the last full week in May all across the United States. We are asking for individuals and groups involved in homeschooling to set up events in their areas. Russell Cave National Monument
For more than 10,000 years, Russell Cave was home to prehistoric peoples. Russell Cave provides clues to the daily lifeways of early North American inhabitants dating from 6500 B.C. to 1650 A.D. The cave shelter archaeological site contains the most complete record of prehistoric cultures in the Southeast. A National Park site dedicated to teaching people about the lifeways of the pre-historic Indians who lived in the cave shelter. We conduct outreach programs in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Explore the Alabama Museum of Natural History housed in historic Smith Hall, one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts architecture in the region. See the Hodges meteorite, the only meteorite know to have struck a human.

Karl C. Harrison Museum of George Washington
Founded in 1982 by Karl C. Harrison, a Columbiana banker and philanthropist, the Karl C. Harrison Museum of George Washington has become an important forum for learning about America’s first First Family. Through the foresighted efforts and encouragement of Martha Washington's granddaughter Eliza Parke Custis, family heirlooms have been lovingly passed down through generations. In the early 1980's, Shelby County resident Charlotte Smith, Weaver, a sixth generation granddaughter of Martha, decided to share her legacy with the public, providing the basis of the museum.

Home of the Monroe County Heritage Museums’ office, the Old Courthouse Museum sits on the historic downtown square of Monroeville, Alabama.

Museum of East Alabama
The museum now houses over 5,000 artifacts including both 19th, and 20th century local, state and general history items. Noteworthy collections at the museum include Roanoke Dolls, Camp Opelika items (a WW II POW camp), and area business history.


Huntsville
Huntsville Botanical Garden
The Garden provides a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to expand their knowledge of plants and nature. Programs are offered for adults and children, individually and in groups. The Nature Center/Butterfly House is open May through September.


Florence
Indian Mound and Museum
Located near the banks of the Tennessee River, the Florence Indian Mound is the Tennessee Valley's largest domiciliary mound. It is a typical example of the work of the early Native Americans who lived in Alabama before the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Creek nations inhabited this region. It is a 42 foot high quadrilateral mound with a summit measuring 145 x 94 feet. Early settlers in the region found steps on the east side and evidence that the mound had been enclosed by a semi-circular earthen wall. The museum contains Native American artifacts dating back over 10,000 years, arranged in chronological order from Paleo to Historic periods.

Eden Academy of Tuscaloosa Support Group
Eden Academy of Tuscaloosa ~~Where Acceptance is the Theme. Our support group is open to all homeschooling families, or those interested in homeschooling. You do NOT have to be enrolled in Eden Academy of Tuscaloosa school to be a member. People of ALL religions, faiths, or beliefs are welcome.



Maxwell Area Home Educators (MAHE)
Maxwell Area Home Educators (MAHE) is a support group formed primarily to encourage military homeschoolers regardless of their reasons for homeschooling, philosophy, or method of instruction. MAHE is not a church school, but a network of homeschoolers working together to assist one another in our homeschooling efforts. No age restriction or requirement.



Elmore County Homeschool Organization (ECHO)
We seek to provide a positive socialization environment for homeschooled children and to furnish a forum for support and encouragement to their parents in the homeschooling process. We also welcome those who are thinking about homeschooling. ECHO is a homeschool support group, not a cover school. Membership is free! Just bring your children and a snack to share.



Tennessee Valley Homeschoolers
We are an all inclusive group of homeschooling families in the Tennessee Valley. Our intentions are to provide an avenue for homeschoolers in all of the Tennessee Valley to give and receive support and information. Currently, our group offers a Mom's Night once a month for both the North Alabama area as well as Southern Middle Tennessee, holiday parties, field trips, and any other activity proposed and planned by any of our members. All ideas are welcomed and all members are encouraged to plan as well as participate. In order to insure that all of our new members are homeschooling families, upon request for membership you will be asked to give some very basic information.

HS4RKidsSocialGroup
HS4RKids Social Group is a group for home schooling families who would like a place to post social activities for home schoolers that they have planned or others have planned for home schoolers in the North Alabama area. Our age range is children elementary age children but all activities for various ages are welcomed. I would like to have us meet for play dates, field trips, fun days (i.e. bowling, rollerskating, etc...), and also do seasonal/holiday parties.So when you join if you are interested in doing activites like this please feel free to organize them or email the listmom for any help you might want in planning a event.

Huntsville Homeschool Extension for Alabama Teens
HHEAT was founded in June 2005 out of a need for an open and welcoming group for any and all homeschooling families in the Huntsville area to meet and discuss regardless of ethnicity, faith, lifestyle or home-schooling style. The primary focus of the group is to provide social opportunities for teens and their families. We know that the entire family is involved in schooling, not just the primary caregiver. Our on-line goal is to have an open forum to discuss any subject pertinent to home-schooling with tolerance, dignity and respect. Our off-line goal is to be able to gather and meet the social needs of our children. We will have trips, activities, parties, seasonal gatherings and share our talents with other families.
